Advantages of your OWN Coverage

there are many advantages nurses can gain by getting their own coverage.  You may have already found that you can command $300-800 more a month in hourly pay rate by NOT enrolling in your Agency coverage on top of no payroll deductions!

Overpriced Family Coverage

In most cases, Staffing Agencies grossly overcharge for family coverage.  It may be $0-200 a month for the Nurse but an extra $600/month to add a 29-year-old spouse.  Family coverage can be $1K+ a month!

DON'T OVER PAY

Often, it’s a wise strategy to SPLIT the family’s coverage.  This way the nurse can take care of their Employer/Agency coverage BUT not be overcharged for the rest of the family.  

NEW 2023 AFFORDABILITY LAWS

Congress passed new laws in 2022 that went into effect Jan 1, 2023, which provides a formula to determine if an employer’s plan is deemed “affordable”.

PROTECT YOUR MONEY & HEALTH

If your employer’s coverage does not meet your family’s affordability criteria the government then provides you with recourse.  

Agency Enrollment Deadlines

It can be frustrating and anxiety-riddled to remember to enroll in a Staffing Agency’s health coverage.  All Agencies will give you a window of time you have to enroll.  This window varies amongst Agencies, from 1 week to 1 month. 

ZERO FORGIVENESS

If you do NOT enroll before that window closes you will NOT be allowed another opportunity to enroll until after that Contract completes, a waiting period is expired, & you sign a NEW contract. 

ANOTHER DRAWBACK?

EVERY time you enroll in health coverage you RESTART your Deductible all over again.   You should strive for ONE plan per year so you more value for your $$$

DON'T PAY MORE THAN ONE DEDUCTIBLE

If you are medium to high usage, this could significantly cost you more in out-of-pocket expenses than if you were on the same plan for the whole year.  

DENTAL DRAWBACKS

If you are opting into Agency DENTAL coverage you will NEVER expire either your 6-month or 12-month waiting periods that are standard with all traditional employer dental plans.  

BENEFITS YOU CAN USE

If you need dental work periodically or often, you would be better served with your own individual dental plan that you can expire the waiting periods on & actually be able to use your benefits.

NEGOTIATION LEVERAGE

Having your own coverage would provide you with the negotiating power to obtain a significantly higher hourly pay rate!

COMMAND $2-5/HOUR HIGHER PAY

If your Agency does not have to pay the remaining $500-700/month for your company health coverage - they can share that profit with you!
